Let’s Build a Safer Future for Rotorcraft Together

Posted 1 hour ago ago by Admin

No single organization, company or individual can ensure safe operations alone. From manufacturers and operators to pilots, engineers, regulators and safety professionals, we all have a part to play. The better we work together, the safer our operations become.

That simple idea is the theme for this year's European Rotors, taking place in Lyon, France, from 30 November to 3 December 2026.

Safety Is a Team Effort

Every helicopter flight depends on many people doing their jobs well. Aircraft must be designed, certified and maintained. Crews need the right training and operational support. Risks must be understood and managed, and lessons from accidents and incidents need to be shared.

But safety isn't simply about everyone doing their own part. It's about connecting those different parts of the system and recognizing how our individual decisions affect others.

At EASA, we know that regulators don't have all the answers. We need the experience of pilots, the operational knowledge of helicopter operators, and the technical expertise of manufacturers and maintenance organizations. Equally, the people developing regulations need to understand what happens in real operations, while those applying the rules need to understand why they exist.

This is particularly important when we look at the safety challenges that continue to affect our industry. How do we prevent accidents that keep happening despite years of safety initiatives? How do we ensure that training prepares pilots for the situations they actually encounter? How can we make better use of safety data to identify emerging risks and turn lessons into practical improvements?

These aren't questions that EASA, VAI or any individual organization can answer alone. We need to combine our knowledge, experience and perspectives to find better solutions. We also need to be prepared to have honest conversations, including about the things that aren't working as well as they should.

Join Us in Lyon

The European Rotors week begins on Monday, 30 November, with the EASA Rotorcraft Symposium, bringing together certification and operational experts to discuss current safety priorities, regulatory developments, training, innovation and the challenges facing the rotorcraft community.

The Symposium provides an opportunity to hear directly from EASA specialists, industry representatives and operators, but more importantly, it’s an opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss practical ways to improve safety.

We want the event to be more than a series of presentations. We want people to ask questions, challenge assumptions and share their experiences. Some of the most useful safety improvements start with someone saying, "We've been struggling with this problem. Has anyone found a better way?"

From Tuesday  to Thursday, 1-3 December, European Rotors brings the wider vertical aviation community together for three days of exhibitions, conferences, technical sessions and networking. Don’t forget to visit our Rotorcraft Safety Zone – where practical safety comes to life.

There will be aircraft, new technologies, equipment and innovations to discover, but perhaps the most valuable part of the event is something much simpler: the opportunity to meet people.

A conversation over coffee with another operator might reveal a better way of managing a risk. A discussion with a manufacturer might help resolve an operational challenge. A meeting between a pilot and a regulator might lead to a better understanding on both sides.

These connections build trust and create relationships that help us solve problems long after the event has finished.

Let's Make "Together" Mean Something

Helicopters make an extraordinary contribution to society. Every day, they save lives through emergency medical services and search and rescue, support firefighting and disaster relief, and connect communities that might otherwise be difficult to reach.

We should be proud of what our industry achieves, but we also have a responsibility to ensure that these essential services remain safe and sustainable into the future.

That means continuing to improve how we work together, embracing innovation responsibly and attracting the next generation of pilots, engineers, technicians and safety professionals.

It also means recognizing that safety has no borders. Whether operating in Europe, North America or elsewhere, we face many of the same challenges. Sharing our knowledge and learning from each other's experiences helps the entire global rotorcraft community.

So whether you're a pilot, engineer, operator, manufacturer, regulator or safety professional, we hope to see you in Lyon. Come ready to share your experiences, ask difficult questions, learn something new and make new connections.

Because safety isn't something any of us delivers alone. It's something we create together.
