The pilot was fatally injured. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 137 aerial application flight.

Rome, 24/01/2023 – Leonardo and Guardia di Finanza (Italy’s Police Force with general capability in economic and financial matters as well as the only maritime Police Force in Italy) celebrated today the delivery of the operator’s first AW169M light-intermediate twin engine helicopter in a special configuration featuring skids. Heli-One, a leading provider of helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, has recently been contracted by Leonardo to support the fleet of AW101 SAR Queen helicopters operated by the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Personnel from Heli-One’s Stavanger facility will be working with Leonardo staff to perform line maintenance, increasing the amount of trained personnel available to support the new fleet.

Marignane, 25 January 2023 – In 2022, Airbus Helicopters logged 374 gross orders (net: 362), highlighting the ongoing market recovery with an impressive 216 light single engine helicopters sold. Deliveries increased from 338 in 2021 to 344 in 2022, contributing to Airbus Helicopters’ preliminary 52% share of the civil and parapublic market . Airbus’ helicopter fleet flight hours are now back to pre-COVID 2019 levels.

The pilot reported that, he was initiating a landing to a ledge. As the landing skids contacted the ground, the pilot felt the helicopter settle tail first. Startled by this, he abruptly raised the collective, unaware that he was holding forward cyclic input. As power was applied, the rear skids lifted off the ground first, creating a nose low attitude. The helicopter subsequently rolled over onto its right side substantially damaging the fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the helicopter that would have precluded normal operation.
