OWEGO, N.Y. April. 8, 2024 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will work with Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTC), and Altera, an Intel Company, to support the Stimulating Transition for Advanced Microelectronics Packaging (STAMP) program for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD R&E). Lockheed Martin will develop a low size, weight, and power (SWaP), Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) aligned airborne electronic defense system, utilizing Altera’s Multi-Chip Package (MCP2) for expected use on the U.S. Navy’s MH-60R multi-mission helicopter. The project was awarded through the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane Division Strategic & Spectrum Missions Advanced Resilient Trusted Systems (S2MARTS) Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) vehicle and will be managed by the National Security Technology Accelerator (NSTXL).

ITP Aero has signed a contract with the Colombian Ministry of Defence for the Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of the T700 engines that power its Armed Forces' fleet of Black Hawk helicopters. The contract will run until June 2026 and the MRO services for the engines will be carried out at ITP Aero's facilities in Albacete (Spain).

Santiago de Chile - The Ministry of Defense of Honduras has acquired two additional Airbus H145 helicopters, which will be operated by the Honduran Air Force to perform passenger and cargo transport, search and rescue, firefighting, medical evacuation, and other essential missions in the region. This new purchase follows an initial order signed in April 2023 for two H145s that will be delivered before the end of 2024.

Tokyo, 11 April 2024 – Japan Coast Guard (JCG) has placed an additional order for three H225 helicopters, taking its total H225 fleet up to 18. The largest Super Puma operator in Japan received three H225s in December 2023 and one in February 2024 for its growing fleet. The new helicopters will support territorial coastal activities, maritime law enforcement, as well as disaster relief missions in the country.

The pilot reported that while attempting to land at his private helipad near a lake at night, he was unable to determine his height above the water. As he prepared to return to the departure airport, the tail rotor contacted the water. The pilot attempted to climb, but the helicopter began an un-commanded yaw to the right. The pilot reduced power and lowered the collective. The helicopter subsequently impacted the water and sustained substantial damage to the main rotor, tail boom, and vertical stabilizer. The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures of the helicopter that would have precluded normal operation.
