Safran Arrano 1A obtains FAA certification

Safran Helicopter Engines has received FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) type certification for its Arrano 1A engine, installed in the Airbus H160 helicopter. Arrano is a new-generation turboshaft in the 1,100 to 1,300 shp power range. It integrates the best in aero-engine technologies and offers a 15 % reduction in fuel consumption over other in-service helicopter engines. Arrano received EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) type certification in June 2019.

Safran and Global Turbine Asia renewed their contract to support Malaysian H225M engines

6 July 2021, Kuala Lumpur - Safran Helicopter Engines and Global Turbine Asia (GTA) have renewed their contract to support Makila 2A of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). Powering their H225M helicopters, over 30 Makila engines will continue to be covered by Safran’s Global Support Package (GSP). Since 2014, this agreement has proved its efficiency to satisfy RMAF’s requirements for optimum availability during their operations.

Safran Helicopter Engines introduce biofuel to its facilities

5 July 2021, Bordes - For the first time, Safran Helicopter Engines has run an Arrano engine using 38% of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its Bordes plant in SW France. This biofuel was produced from used cooking oil. The ground run marks the first step of a strategy to deploy SAF in engine test cells at all Safran Helicopter Engines plants. By the end of the year, the manufacturer plans to use at least 10% SAF at all its French facilities.

First rescue helicopter flies on sustainable aviation fuel

7 June 2021, Munich - A rescue helicopter has flown on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for the first time, achieving a new milestone in international aviation. Operated by the German non-profit organization ADAC Luftrettung, the Airbus H145 rescue helicopter has its Arriel 2E engines ceremonially refuelled with biofuel, a type of SAF, at the air rescue station at Munich's Harlaching Clinic in the presence of the ADAC Foundation's board of directors, as well as the managing directors and top management of ADAC Luftrettung, the engine manufacturer Safran Helicopter Engines, the helicopter manufacturer Airbus Helicopters, and the energy company TotalEnergies. Together, these companies will be a driving force in the decarbonisation of helicopter flight by moving away from fossil fuels.

Safran signs by-the-hour support contract with Bundespolizei

6 April 2021, Hamburg - Safran Helicopter Engines has signed a Support-By-Hour (SBH®) contract with the German federal police (Bundespolizei), covering their H120 fleet. This contract formalizes a long-term MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) and service agreement supporting a total of 11 Arrius 2F engines.The Bundespolizei currently operates 10 H120 helicopters for training missions.

Safran signs by-the-hour support contract with State Grid General Aviation Company

Safran Helicopter Engines has signed a Support-By-Hour (SBH®) contract with State Grid General Aviation Company (SGGAC), covering their H215 and H225 fleets. This contract formalizes a long-term MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) and service agreement supporting a total of 4 Makila engines. This contract also includes the renewal of SBH® support for 14 Arriel 2D engines powering the operator’s fleet of 13 H125 helicopters.

Safran Helicopter Engines strengthen its European team around Ardiden 3TP with ITP Aero in Spain

5 October 2020, Bordes - Safran Helicopter Engines and the Spanish aero-engine company ITP Aero have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to cooperate on Ardiden 3TP, a turboprop engine suitable for European military applications – specifically the unmanned, training and transport sectors.
