Safran contract renewed for U.S. Army UH-72 Lakota engine support

Safran Helicopter Engines has signed an agreement with Airbus Helicopters to continue supporting Arriel engines powering the U.S. Army UH-72 Lakota helicopter fleet. This contract formalizes a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and service agreement supporting  over 900 Arriel 1E2 and Arriel 2E engines, operated by the U.S. Army on its UH-72A and UH-72B.

Safran and Bell to collaborate on sustainable aviation fuel initiative for Bell 505

9 March 2022, Heli-Expo, Dallas - Safran Helicopter Engines  and Bell Textron Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today a collaboration intitiative to explore technical performance and economic impacts of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on the Arrius 2R-powered Bell 505. A single, dedicated Bell 505 aircraft will conduct flights solely with the use of blended SAF. Both Bell and Safran Helicopter Engines will evaluate engine and aircraft performance data to better assess the collateral benefits associated with the incorporation of SAF, a significant tool being used to reach industry carbon reduction objectives.

Safran signs the first SBH® contract to support Arrano engines

8 March 2022, HAI Heli-Expo 2022, Dallas- All Nippon Helicopter (ANH) has signed a Support-By-the-Hour(SBH®) contract with Safran Helicopter Engines to support Arrano engines powering its brand new Airbus H160 helicopter. This contract formalizes a MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) and service agreement supporting the two engines of the helicopter. This is the first-ever SBH® contact signed for the Arrano.

Safran deploys SAF to UK facility

Safran Helicopter Engines has started using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its Fareham facility in the United Kingdom on a permanent basis, initially with the currently available mix of 38% SAF and subsequently with the maximum permitted blend of 50%. It is the first Safran Helicopter Engines site outside France to use SAF in its engine test cells and now a leading aerospace site worldwide in this field. The SAF is produced by Neste from 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials, like used cooking oil.

First Airbus helicopter flight with 100% sustainable aviation fuel

Marignane, 9 November 2021– An Airbus H225 has performed the first ever helicopter flight with 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) powering one of the Safran Makila 2 engines. The flight, which took place at the company’s headquarters in Marignane, marks the start of a flight campaign aiming to assess the impact of unblended SAF on the helicopter systems in view of certifying the use of SAF blends that exceed today’s 50% limit.
