Philadelphia, PA – May 15, 2026
There is a new aviation scholarship available to helicopter students. With high fuel costs gripping the United States economy, rising aviation training fees nationally and the general cost of entry to aviation at local airports restricting many students, this scholarship will assist one lucky flight student who wants to embark on a career as a helicopter pilot. This scholarship will be renewed every 18 months, and you can reapply if not successful first-time round.
“We are offering a helicopter scholarship because the industry needs more career rotorcraft pilots and we want to give back and encourage aviation to anybody who has a restriction to entry, it’s up to them now to study, work hard and participate in aviation programs” says Mark Robinson, an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner and Flight Instructor for mrdpe.com.
Helicopter pilots account for approximately 4% of total career pilots in the United States hence the need. The scholarship started in 2026 with a minimum value of $7,100.00 which is paid out upon completion of course training with a helicopter flight school. Many people can’t afford the entry to helicopter flight training so many budding students will start and continue with airplanes despite their passion being with helicopters. Sometimes the cost can be as much as 50% less per flight hour for airplanes versus helicopters.
The lucky winner of the scholarship will come from four chosen finalists selected from the candidate submissions due January 10th each year. This gives the four selected a 25% chance of being selected by the board. Evaluations are based upon thorough packet presentation and completion, data submitted and professionalism.
