MD Helicopters unveiled a new high-performance light single platform prototype, the MD 564 — an aircraft designed to extend the legacy of the iconic 500-series into a new era of capability. Building upon the proven 500-series lineage, the MD 564 concept integrates the Rolls-Royce 250- C47E/3 engine, delivering significant gains in power margin, payload flexibility, and high/hot performance.
Preliminary analysis positions the MD 564 at or near the top of the light single segment in most key performance categories, and its composite ranking rivals the best in the ] long light single segment – as a short light singe helicopter!
Key conceptual highlights include:
-
Up to +650 lbs internal payload increase over legacy 500-series aircraft
-
Up to +750 lbs external payload increase over legacy 500-series aircraft
-
4-hour endurance with main and auxiliary fuel
-
400+ NM range
-
HOGE capability at MTOW up to 14,500 feet
-
Garmin G500TXi avionics suite with IFR capability
The MD 564 is designed to deliver near-intermediate lift performance while maintaining the operating economics of a light single. “This concept reflects the core philosophy of MD and the 500-series,” said Ryan Weeks, President & CEO. “High performance, durability, reliability, safety, and mission margin — without unnecessary complexity.”
The 500-series has long been regarded as one of the industry’s most agile and performance- oriented helicopter platforms. The MD 564 represents a modern evolution of that reputation, integrating enhanced power, expanded endurance, and contemporary avionics while preserving the rugged DNA that operators trust.
MD Helicopters is engaging with key customers and industry stakeholders as it evaluates market demand for the MD 564 platform – as both a new aircraft and a kitted upgrade for the MD 530F, which follows suit with MD’s new line of Super D, Super E, and 530N upgrades for the fielded fleet.
