The world’s largest helicopter trade-show exhibition, Heli-Expo 2013, set new records and the Rotorcraft Pro Media Network (RPMN) team was out in full force covering it all. The excitement from Las Vegas was broadcast on all RPMN outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, and RotorcraftPro.com.
Heli-Expo 2013 grew for the sixth straight year, setting a new record with an official attendance of 20,393. And with more than 730 exhibitors and 60 helicopters from all over the globe, there was plenty to see and do. Over 27 educational courses were conducted with nearly 1000 attendees. We’re proud to note that RPMN’s own Heli-Success career development seminar was the highest attended among all the worthwhile offerings. RPMN’s next two-day HeliSuccess event this year will return to Las Vegas, Nevada, November 2 – 4.
Sales got made. Latest tallies have approximately 230 aircraft sold at the show. Total announced sales for all helicopters and related products exceeded $2 billion. Why? One reason is that surveys showed that 75% of attendees are directly involved in purchase decisions. Also, the wide diversity of the helicopter industry has allowed it to adapt to changing economic conditions. The Rotor Safety Challenge, a new offering at Heli-Expo comprised of over 45 safety events, was a big success with full classes. The HAI industry job fair saw more than 997 job seekers connect with 24 employers.
Of course, like any great event it wasn’t all work with no play. There were ample opportunities to socialize and just have some fun, including the 2013 Salute to Excellence Awards as well as the Helicopter Foundation International (HFI) Fundraising Golf Tournament. RPMN Publisher Brig Bearden participated in the Helicopter Foundation International Golf Tournament at the Desert Pines Golf Club in Las Vegas, where he won the “straightest drive” competition. Slightly more importantly, HFI raised thousands of dollars to further the dreams of future industry professionals through scholarships, mentoring panels, and other programs intended to promote helicopter heritage.
RPMN friend and contributing editor, Randy Rowles, was awarded the W.A. (Dub) Blessing Certified Flight Instructor of the Year Award, which recognizes superlative contributions by a helicopter flight instructor in upholding high standards of excellence.
Heli-Expo 2014 will be held in California, February 25-27 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Like this year, RPMN plans to cover it all and hopes to see you there!
