Bombardier's backlog swells to $22.2 billion. Buyers may still have to wait.

Bombardier's third-quarter results showed revenue of $2.4 billion, adjusted EBITDA of $382 million and free cash flow of $183 million. Aircraft deliveries totaled 33 units during the quarter. The company also raised its 2026 free-cash-flow guidance to more than $1.3 billion. Demand remained strong, producing a 1.7x unit book-to-bill ratio and lifting backlog to $22.2 billion. The backlog increase is significant because it occurred while production kept moving forward. Bombardier delivered aircraft, generated higher revenue and held its production outlook, yet backlog still grew by $4.7 billion, or about 27%, compared with year-end 2025. New orders are entering the production system faster than finished aircraft are leaving it. "We are entering the final stretch of 2026 with a healthy backlog, strong demand and solid visibility on all remaining deliveries," said Bombardier president and CEO Éric Martel. The practical question for buyers is timing. Some customers are willing to wait for a factory-new aircraft with their preferred specifications, interior selections and delivery position. Others place more value on an aircraft that can enter service immediately. Bombardier's results provide context for that decision: the backlog is growing because demand remains strong, and orders are arriving faster than deliveries. What the release does not say is how long that wait will run for a new Challenger or Global. Bombardier gave no lead times and did not break out how backlog is allocated across product lines. Why It Matters Large-cabin and super-midsize buyers often decide between waiting for a factory slot and buying an aircraft that is already available. Bombardier's results show demand continuing to outpace production. That's good news for the company but it may test the patience of buyers who need an aircraft sooner rather than later.
