Beechcraft Denali moves closer to reshaping the turboprop market

The Beechcraft Denali has been in development since 2021 and is now entering the final phase of flight testing ahead of certification. What happened Textron announced on July 21 that the Denali turboprop is progressing through the final phases of flight testing and is scheduled to complete all flight tests in Oct. 2026. The aircraft has completed over 4,100 flight-test hours across three test aircraft. Once all the tests are completed, Textron will submit final certification documentation to the FAA. It plans for the Denali to enter service in 2027. The final stretch of a long development program The Denali has attracted a significant amount of attention in the aviation industry because it combines a clean-sheet airframe with new powerplant technology and modern avionics. It is the first aircraft powered with the GE Aerospace Catalyst engine, which burns less fuel than competitors in the same size class, and the aircraft can use SAF. The cockpit features the Garmin G3000 avionics suite with high-resolution screens and touchscreen controllers. The aircraft is engineered to reach cruise speeds of 285 knots and a full fuel payload of 1,100 pounds. The extended development timeline has given buyers plenty of years to evaluate whether to wait or purchase something else. The announcement of the flight tests ending soon makes that decision more immediate. What it means for turboprop buyers Buyers will soon be able to compare the Denali against already in-service turboprops that have real delivery visibility. While not yet certified, it may start to be treated as a realistic alternative instead of a distant promise. The approaching certification milestone may influence how some buyers evaluate purchase timing. Some buyers may choose to wait for the Denali, while others may purchase aircraft with established operating costs and delivery times.
