Bombardier's Singapore expansion closes Asia-Pacific's OEM MRO gap

Bombardier operators in the Asia-Pacific region have reason to cheer as a glaring MRO gap is about to be addressed. Challenger and Global operators will soon be seeing the region's largest expansion of OEM-backed MRO capacity in years with Bombardier's announcement of a $78 million expansion investment in its Singapore Service Centre at JTC's Seletar Aerospace Park. A full-service facility, not just more hangar space The investment includes the construction of a new 250,000 sq. ft. facility and is meant to expand its service footprint while providing more access and support across the Asia-Pacific. The facility's planned services include scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications, avionics installations and 24/7 aircraft-on-ground (AOG) support. It is also planned to support aircraft recompletion activities and will feature a Component Repair and Overhaul (CRandamp;O) workshop. For customers, visitors and maintenance crews, Bombardier plans to include a customer lounge and a dedicated crew rest area. Construction is planned to begin in the second half of 2026, with operations starting in the second half of 2028. Bombardier says its expanded presence will support the creation of over 200 highly-skilled jobs over time. The site currently employs over 300 local staff, including approximately 250 licensed engineers and technicians. Market impactThe competitive landscape in Asia-Pacific MRO is more crowded than ever, however, OEM-backed services at this scale remain rare. ExecuJet MRO Services, now part of Dassault, is the incumbent, with six sites across Australasia and a flagship facility in Kuala Lumpur, with coverage primarily focused on Falcon operators. Textron recently expanded with an enlarged Melbourne base in early 2026. Jet Aviation operates at Seletar as well, which handles Gulfstream support through General Dynamics' network. The big takeaway of the Bombardier investment is both the scale and the specific support for Challenger and Global operators dealing with warranty work, software upgrades, complex avionics installations and anything else that third-party MROs can't fully replicate. With the expansion, the Asia-Pacific region will have stronger MRO support and service. Bombardier owners and operators will see faster AOG response times and will have an easier time scheduling maintenance, as more crews will be able to be deployed. Recompletion services will now also be available for new paint and interior finishing. Aircraft sellers should be aware that buyers in the region may also be more incentivized to purchase Bombardier aircraft once the facility is complete and can provide added support.
