Textron Aviation announces In-Flight Operable Door for Cessna SkyCourier

Textron Aviation has announced a new In-Flight Operable Door option for the passenger variant of its Cessna SkyCourier turboprop. The company claims the new option will expand the aircraft's Special Mission versatility for military, humanitarian and commercial operations. Textron expects that the functionality will be available as a factory-installed option in 2028. "An In-Flight Operable Door builds on the Cessna SkyCourier's reputation for reliability and adaptability, reinforcing its role as a purpose-built solution for high-demand missions," said Bob Gibbs, VP of Special Missions Sales. "The option opens new opportunities for customers worldwide, including armed forces, smokejumpers, disaster relief groups and commercial skydiving operators." The In-Flight Operable Door is a modification designed as an alternative to the standard cargo door and should be both durable and easy to easy. Unlike typical cargo doors, the In-Flight Operable Door can be opened in-flight, which can be used for deploying paratroopers or airdropping supplies at a precise location. The door can be used for standard cargo door ground operations and should seamlessly integrate with the aircraft's platform.
