Dog rescued by police helicopter after falling in New York river

A golden doodle was rescued from the Seneca River in New York on March 23 using a police helicopter. Someone called 911 at around 6 p.m. to report that a dog was swimming in the river, according to Thomas Newton, spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff's office. The caller said that he was going to jump into the water to rescue the dog, but was advised against it. Video shows the department's Air One helicopter hovering above the river as a deputy was able to reach down and pull the dog out of the water at around 6:15. The dog, named Cooper, was extremely cold and shivering, according to the department. He was flown to the ball fields on Downer Street Road, where the Baldwinsville Fire Department dried and warmed him up with blankets, according to WSYR. After being warmed up, Cooper had no lasting injuries and is in good health. His owner had reported him missing on Facebook earlier that day, Newton said. He had apparently gotten loose and jumped off a dock while multiple people attempted to catch him. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Onondaga Co. "Our well-trained crew took one minute to respond and six minutes to complete the rescue," said Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley. "Excellent work by our deputies and all those involved."
