Boeing 777-9 approved for Phase 4A of Type Inspection Authorization

The FAA approved the fourth phase of Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) testing for the Boeing 777-9. The fourth phase of TIA testing is split into two parts, 4A and 4B, which together have the same number of tests as Phase 3, which began in Nov. 2025 and has not been completed yet. The phases can run at the same time and do not require one phase to be completed before another starts, according to the Air Current. Phase 5 will have a limited series of tests and will be followed by Extended Operations and system functionality and reliability validations. The 777-9 was originally expected to enter service in 2020, but is now expected to enter service in 2020. The delay is a result of the high volume of documentation required for the testing program to begin each TIA phase. Boeing has built over two dozen examples of the aircraft, but only four airframes are used for testing and certification, according to Simple Flying. Boeing has 5 test aircraft in the TIA program.RELATED STORIES: Boeing receives FAA and EASA qualification for 777-9 flight training simulators Boeing cleared to begin the next phase of 777-9 certification testing Boeing retires final 787 Dreamliner test aircraft after 16 years The approval comes after Boeing CFO Jay Malave spoke on the aircraft at the Bank of America Global Industrials.
