U.S. Coast Guard receives first of two Gulfstream G700 jets

The United States Coast Guard on January 29 received the first of the two Gulfstream G700 jets. The jets are the first members of the G700 line to be operated by an arm of the U.S. government and are meant to replace the older C-37A and C-37B aircraft, according to TWZ News. Pictures of the aircraft were first released last month, with a livery very similar to what President Donald Trump had picked for the future VC-25B Air Force One aircraft. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has already conducted official trips to Arizona and Mississippi aboard the aircraft. The total cost of the aircraft is between $170 million and $200 million, according to MSN. The two jets will act as Long-Range Command and Control Aircraft (LRCCA) and are to ensure secure communications and mobility during a crisis, such as natural disasters. The G700s features Starshield, the government's more secure version of SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet service, which is mainly used by U.S. military agencies. "While a G550 is capable, it is no longer in production and USCG is at the mercy of the resale market to grow the LRCCA fleet in the required time."
