NBAA leads new coalition against luxury aircraft tax in Washington

The NBAA announced on Monday that it is forming a new coalition against the new 10% luxury vehicle tax to any sale, lease or transfer of certain vehicles exceeding $100,000 in Washington State. Any recreational vehicle exceeding $500,000 will also face this tax.Bill 5801 passed late in the last state legislative session but will not take effect until April 1, 2026. Proceeds from the tax will be deposited into the state's Sustainable Aviation Fuel Account, according to Flying Magazine. The NBAA states that it is already impacting aviation businesses in Washington as they reconsider their presence in the state. "Sustainability is a driving force for NBAA and the broader aviation industry, as evidenced in our 2050 net-zero emission target and advocacy for sustainable aviation fuel," said Phil Derner, NBAA regional director. "This coalition is intent on communicating that commitment, while also dispelling misconceptions and highlighting aviation's positive contributions to environmental progress. We are here to build a constructive relationship that incentivizes and empowers our industry to be a better participant in sustainability and a better neighbor in communities throughout the state, not just in the big cities."
