Textron Aviation announced that the Cessna Citation Ascend achieved FAA type certification on Wednesday.
The company states that the two flight test articles have completed multiple certification tests and have flown over 1,000 hours. The Ascend has a newly designed cockpit, a flat floor cabin for legroom and flexibility, a maximum range of 1,940 nm and a maximum speed of 817 kmph.
"The Citation Ascend's successful flight test program reflects our teams' expertise in obtaining FAA certification while designing and delivering the best aviation experience for our customers," said Chris Hearne, senior VP of engineering and programs. "We sought our customers' feedback, and the result is a business jet that offers customers the latest innovations in performance, productivity and efficiency."
The new cockpit features three 14-inch high-resolution displays, synthetic vision tech to render obstacles, and autothrottle technology to reduce pilot workload and provide flight-envelope protection. There is an optional second Iridium data radio and controller-pilot data link communications (CPDLC) for direct routing between North America and Europe.

The Ascend is configured for 12 passengers and has an advanced acoustic treatment system that reduces noise in the cabin. Textron claims the cabin noise level is similar to driving on the highway. There are 19 standard USB charging ports and three universal outlets throughout the aircraft, along with wireless phone charging. Customers should be able to control the cabin lighting, temperature, window shades and onboard entertainment. The Ascend includes standard GoGo U.S. Avance L3 Max Wi-Fi and optional U.S. Avance L5 Wi-Fi for connectivity options.
