Aircraft carrying relief supplies for Hurricane Melissa crashes in Florida lake

An aircraft carrying hurricane relief supplies for victims of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica crashed into a lake in Coral Lake, Florida. The aircraft crashed into the lake behind a house at around 10:20 a.m., according to 7 News Miami. It had departed from the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) but went down shortly after take-off. The aircraft hit at least one palm tree and a back fence before landing in the water. Debris from the crash was reportedly scattered on both sides of the lake, but no one on the ground was reportedly injured, and no homes were damaged, according to ABC News. "We did have a lot of reports that saw the plane go into the water," said Mike Moser, Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Rescue Deputy Fire Chief. "They have described it as a smaller-type plane, not as small as a Cessna type, maybe a little bit bigger." Moser reported that the aircraft may have broken into several pieces and divers were able to find the fuselage, but no victims or survivors have been found. "They followed the debris trail to the water. We had divers that entered the water and tried to search for any victims and didn't find any." There has been no known confirmation of the aircraft involved in the crash, but data from FlightRadar24 showed a Beechcraft King Air B100 en route to Montego Bay that stopped communicating around the same time in Coral Springs.
