A new $1 million aircraft fueling system has been installed at the Gallatin County Airport (8GK) in Sparta, Kentucky.
The system upgrade is supposed to increase the facility's aircraft traffic capacity, help local business activity and vendor demand and increase revenue for the county. The Kentucky Department of Aviation funded the project, which began in May and was completed by October. More aircraft hangars and a terminal building are also being constructed to encourage more people to base their aircraft at 8GK.
"Investments like this ensure our airports continue to boost economic growth for communities like Gallatin County," said Governor Andy Beshear. "With modern infrastructure in place, local businesses, flight students and visitors now benefit from enhanced access and convenience, helping drive jobs and tourism across the region and state."

The airport opened in June 2023 as Kentucky's 58th general aviation airport. It took 20 years to complete and has a 5,000 ft by 75 ft concrete runway with a full parallel taxiway and apron. It opened with the expectation of becoming a home base for over 20 aircraft and hosting approximately 13,000 takeoffs annually.
"This new fuel system is a runway to opportunity for Gallatin County," said Jim Gray, Kentucky transportation cabinet secretary. "By enhancing refueling services, we strengthen the airport's role in supporting business aviation, flight training activities, and increased connectivity in general aviation across northern Kentucky."
