FAA warns of companies selling unapproved components for ag and rescue helicopters

?(Image from Isolair)The FAA sent out notifications on Thursday, warning that two companies produced and sold aviation parts without the required FAA approval or authorization. Matterwaves Antenna Technology to have manufactured parts between Sept. 2021 and Aug. 2023 for installation on type-certificated aircraft that did not meet production approval, according to federal authorities. The FAA states that the parts may have certain characteristics to identify the unapproved parts, regardless of the accompanying certification. The parts may have: No evidence the parts were produced by an FAA-approved manufacturer No FAA-PMA or TSO number markings An altered FAA Form 8130-3, Airworthiness Approval Tags and the forms that do not indicate parts manufacturer approval or technical standard order authorization. It is also reported that between Jan. 3, 2023 and July 3, 2025, Isolair produced and distributed systems for helicopter firefighting, forestry and agricultural services without production approval. Isolair was sold in Feb. 2025 and changed location, but continued to sell and ship unapproved parts until July 3. The FAA encourages aircraft owners, operators, manufacturers, maintenance organizations, parts suppliers and distributors to inspect their aircraft or aircraft parts inventory for the referenced part numbers.
