Textron announced Tuesday that the Garmin G5000 integrated flight deck will soon be available for installation on the Cessna Citation XLS+ and XLS Gen2 following the supplemental type certificate approval by the FAA, anticipated for the first half of 2024. The G5000 avionics upgrade will modernize the cockpit and address the evolution of the FAA airspace while offering a lower cost for operation.
Beechcraft, Cessna and Hawker customers will receive factory-direct support, maintenance and modifications by Textron through its network of service and part centers, mobile service units and 24/7 1CALL AOG support.
"Garmin's G5000 integrated flight deck is already a popular modification for Cessna Citation Excel and XLS customers because it offers unmatched situational awareness, lower cost of operation and an improved in-flight experience," Senior VP of Customer Support Brian Rohloff said. "We look forward to expanding this upgrade option to additional Citation operators as we continue to design and deliver the best customer experience and support our customers through the entire life cycle of their aircraft."RELATED STORIES:Garmin G5000 integrated flight deck to receive EASA approval for Cessna Citation Excel and Citation XLS aircraftSee the first Cessna Citation XLS to get a Garmin G5000 avionics upgrade
Garmin's G5000 avionics suite is designed to provide pilots with an up-to-date and intuitive flight deck. The suite includes three landscape-oriented displays with split-screen capability, intuitive touchscreen controllers and geo-referenced Garmin SafeTaxi airport diagrams. The SafeTaxi database also provides operators with better situational awareness when taxiing to airports within the database by showing terminals, hangars, towers, signs and taxiways.
The G5000 upgrade installation on the Citation XLS+ and XLS Gen2 will include a fully digital Automatic Flight Control System and offer precise performance throughout the aircraft flight envelope. The system includes an Emergency Descent Mode as a standard feature. If the aircraft cabin loses pressurization, the EDM will automatically descend the aircraft to a preset altitude without pilot intervention. Underspeed protection will allow the autopilot to help with airspeed management while still allowing full coupled go-arounds and thus, greatly reduce the pilot workload Operators may also have access to more airports and lower approach minimums globally, as the G5000 has PBN/RNP 0.3 with LPV/APV approach capability.
The upgrade will be available through Textron Aviation factory-owned service centers.
