Garmin unveils latest aviator smartwatch, the D2 Mach 1 Pro

Garmin unveiled its newest aviator smartwatch on Tuesday, the D2 Mach 1 Pro. The D2 smartwatch is designed for the demanding pilot lifestyle, from those who fly professionally to those who fly for fun. The new watch features a large AMOLED touchscreen display, has up to 25 days of battery life and an LED flashlight. With a classic pilot watch styling and premium materials like titanium and sapphire, the D2 smartwatch can be worn in the sky and on the ground. The D2 Mach 1 Pro has numerous aviation, health, fitness and smartwatch features. With the D2, Garmin is redefining what a pilot can expect from their smartwatch. "This year marks 10 years of the D2 series - a smartwatch line that pilots have relied on to combine aviation tools with the latest smartwatch technology," said Carl Wolf, Garmin VP of aviation sales and marketing. "The D2 Mach 1 Pro provides an extensive set of advanced capabilities that pilots use every day, all while touting battery life that can withstand even long-haul commercial pilot trips. Features like the LED flashlight and large AMOLED display, combined with the high-end materials, make this the most premium-built D2 smartwatch yet." The latest D2 was designed with numerous features just for pilots. There is a built-in LED flashlight, offering varied white light intensities, a strobe function and a red light for flight deck operations. Battery life has improved, offering up to 25 days in smartwatch mode and up to 46 hours in the Fly activity, an optimal feature for pilots completing a trip over multiple days. Red Shift Mode will change the interface of the watch to a shade of red to help preserve the wearer's night vision. The red interface will allow pilots to see more clearly under night-flying conditions. The ECG app will allow users to record heart rhythms and check for any signs of atrial fibrillation. With the app, users can take a 30-second ECG recording and check results immediately on their watch and as a second option, view it later in the Garmin Connect smartphone app. While on the ground, pilots can track fitness levels and performance with over 30 built-in sports apps. Additionally, the wearer can use the advanced training features on the watch like hill score and endurance score. The watch has been designed for 24/7 wear. The carbon grey D2 Mach 1 Pro combines durable design and premium materials like sapphire and titanium with a sleek, sunlight-readable 1.4" AMOLED display. The 51mm watch case features a diamond-like carbon titanium bezel and a stainless steel 5-button design for fast access to flying tools, notifications and fitness stats. The watch is compatible with a variety of metal, nylon, metal and silicone QuickFit bands, allowing the wearer to style the D2 for every occasion. The D2 Mach 1 Pro is equipped with preflight, in-flight and post-flight features many pilots have come to know and trust with the D2 series, like the aeronautical database, HSI and the Direct-to and moving map. Users can access these features even without a phone connection. Pilots have the option to stay informed with easy access to NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs and MOS weather reports alongside customized weather alerts and non-weather alerts like the time, distance altitude and fuel timer. Using the wrist-based Pulse Ox sensor, pilots can monitor blood oxygen levels and barometric altimeter for altitude alerts. In the event of an engine problem, the D2 can show the best glide speed, estimated glide distance and glide time, as well as a bearing pointer to the closest airport and a list of alternatives. Flight logging is made easier with the D2 Mach 1 Pro. The watch will automatically track flights on takeoff, automatically transferring the date, duration, total flight time and route to the user's flyGarmin.com logbook. Users can connect with the Garmin Pilot app to transfer flight plans to the watch as well as view the list of waypoints in their intended route. Pilots operating PlaneSync-equipped aircraft can use the D2 to access the aircraft dashboard and view status information like fuel, electrical, database and location information while away from an aircraft. The D2 features many built-in sports apps, including new team sports activities like baseball, softball and football. The fitness and sports apps allow users on the ground to track activities like rowing, cardio, stair stepping, strength, yoga and HIIT. The users may also take advantage of the daily workout suggestions or follow the animated strength, yoga, Pilates and cardio workouts on their watch screen. Outdoor explorers can use the watch to track hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, skiing, surfing and whitewater rafting. With numerous tools for on-the-ground and in-the-sky wear, the watch provides users comfort and usability all day. The watch is equipped with 24/7 health monitoring features, health and wellness apps, body battery energy monitoring, all-day stress tracking, jet lag advisor, advanced sleep monitoring and sleep score. The D2 Mach 1 Pro has many connectivity options, allowing users to receive smart notifications; download music from Spotify, Deezer or Amazon Music; check calendars and speed through the checkout line with Garmin Pay contactless payments. Like all Garmin smartwatches, the D2 Mach 1 Pro can be used with both Apple and Android smartphones. The D2 Mach 1 Pro is available now and includes a titanium bracelet with carbon grey DLC coating and a black silicone band. The retail prices for the watch range from $1,199.99 to $1,399.99 depending on case size and edition.
