FAA announces next series of runway safety meetings

The FAA has announced the next round of runway safety meetings, taking place at airports across the country. The agency will host meetings with 16 more airports, in addition to the 90 Runway Safety Action Team meetings already held. The runway safety meetings take place annually at every airport with a control tower. These meetings serve as a setting to identify and address the airport-specific risks in the surface environment. After the meetings, stakeholders will agree to specific actions to improve safety thanks to the Runway Safety Action Plan. The FAA has been working to improve runway safety across the country, hosting meetings and awarding funding for improvements like runway lighting and reconfiguring taxiways.RELATED STORIES:Bipartisan Infrastructure Law awards $200m to light the way to runway safetyFAA awards another $121m, calls for runway safety meetings to reduce risk of close callsFAA gives $100m to 12 airports to reduce runway incursions During the Runway Safety Action Team meetings, the airport's stakeholders will gather to identify airport-specific risks to surface safety and develop mitigation plans.
