WATCH: Plane overruns runway, hits car

A plane hit a car when it overran the runway at the Aero County Airport (T31) in McKinney, Texas on Saturday. The pilot of the experimentally built Lancair IV-P Propjet told witnesses the aircraft's reverse thrust was not working, not slowing the plane down upon landing and allowing it to careen through the fence and into an oncoming car. The two occupants in the plane and sole occupant of the car were evaluated at the scene and the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. According to Flight Aware, the plane took off from Midland Airpark (MDD) about 11:14 a.m. and landed at the Aero County Airport around 12:30 when the jet overran the runway, crashed through the fence and hit a car. According to WFAA, the pilot was trying to make an emergency landing at Aero and was unable to stop at the end of the runway. Witnesses who spoke to the pilot told WFAA that it was his first time landing at Aero and he claimed his aircraft reverse thrust, which slows the aircraft down, was not working. Witnesses captured video of the ordeal, showing the plane speeding down the runway, crashing through the fence and continuing onto Eastbound Virginia Parkway, colliding with a Hyundai Sonata driving on the road. Paramedics at the scene evaluated the two people on the jet and the driver of the car, taking the driver to the hospital with minor injuries. According to The Autopian, the plane was seriously damaged, particularly the propeller, and video showed fluid on the ground at the scene. Pilot Jack Schneider was loading his jet onto a trailer when he witnessed the excursion. "I saw the airplane coming down the runway quickly I knew that he wasn't gonna have time to stop," Schneider told WFAA. "It was clearly going too fast, the tires were smoking… So I quickly pulled out my phone because I could tell something was about to happen." "Usually when you drive, you check your left, you check your right, you don't check up though," McKinney resident Shadi Hiwiadi said to WFAA.
