San Angelo LIVE reported that a pilot said there were strong winds to the east. The plane crashed on approach to the San Angelo Regional Airport (SJT) and the pilot and passenger were killed. San Angelo LIVE reports that the minimum altitude on approach is 4,000 feet MSL and the minimum altitude south of the runway is 2,980 feet. ADSB data showed the PC-12 flying below the altitudes, at 2,800 feet. Another datapoint showed the plane descending rapidly, at about 5,058 feet per minute.
Bad weather was reported in the area at the time of the crash, with one air ambulance remaining grounded as a result. Jacksonville Florida's First Coast News reported that the plane was traveling from the area that afternoon. The pilot reportedly told the air traffic controller, minutes before crashing, "We got a problem!"
