Sirius Aviation AG unveils world's first hydrogen-powered VTOL jet

Sirius Aviation AG unveiled its Sirius Jet, which has been called the first hydrogen-powered VTOL aircraft in the world. The fully electric, zero-emission aircraft is designed to utilize the aerodynamics of a jet and the versatility of planes and helicopters. Sirius unveiled the zero-emission VTOL on Jan. 10 and expects it to take flight in 2025 in two different versions, one for private travel and one for commercial. The Swiss aviation company unveiled two zero-emission jets, designed in collaboration with BMW's Designworks and the Sauber Group. The jets are expected to take flight in 2025. The Sirius Business Jet is geared toward private travelers and has space for up to three passengers The jet will be able to cruise for up to 1,150 miles at speeds of up to 323 miles per hour and altitudes of 30,000 feet. The Sirius BizJet will also offer low noise levels of just 60 decibels. The Sirius Millennium is being made for commercial stints, able to accommodate up to five passengers. With an extra seat, the Millennium has less room for hydrogen tanks, leading to a range of about 650 miles. Sirius said the jets will be the world's first hydrogen-powered VTOL. The Sirius jets could set a new industry standard for flight distance and speed. The jets are expected to be the first hybrid VTOL to run on hydrogen instead of conventional jet fuel.
