Garmin introduces new series of COMM and NAV/COMM radios

Garmin has introduced a new series of COMM and NAV/COMM radios, offering feature-rich solutions for both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. The GTR 205 Comm radio and GNC 215 NAV/COMM radio are both affordable solutions featuring an easy-to-read full-color LCD display, intuitive user interface and worldwide frequency database. The radios come in a thin 1.3-inch bezel height form factor. "The GTR 205 and GNC 215 products show Garmin's commitment to offering attractive and affordable ground-based navigation and communication options while continuing to provide world-class, modern capabilities," said Carl Wolf, Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales and Marketing. "We are excited to offer these new solutions for our general aviation customers as we keep our entire product line fresh." The two radios can serve in a variety of aircraft types and panel installations. The 1.3-inch height form factor matches the previous generation SL30 and SL40 radios, allowing for easier upgrades and creating more room in the panels. Pilot-selectable 25 kHz or 8.33 kHz channel spacing provides global capability. Both radios feature a sunlight-readable color LCD display and indicate the currently tuned active and standby frequencies. The GTR 205 and GNC 215 also indicate station ID, such as KOJC TWR or KSLE ATIS. The vibrant display, concentric knob and backlit keys mimic those found on other Garmin avionics products, providing an intuitive user interface and streamlining product operation. GTR 205 COMM radio The new GTR 205 adds advanced communication capabilities to any panel with an optimized and cost-effective solution. The VHF COMM radio is capable of 2,280 channels and comes standard with 10 watts of power. There is also a 16-watt option available. Operators who require NVIS compatibility have an option as well. Pilots can monitor standby COMM frequency while tuning to the active frequency, allowing them to perform numerous tasks like listening to ATIS transmissions without leaving the active ATC frequency. GNC 215 NAV/COMM radio The GN C 215 offers the same COMM features as the GTR 205 with added full VHF navigation capabilities, including VOR/ILS with localizer and glidescope. Navaid lookup will allow the radio to find the desired frequency from its built-in worldwide database when entering a Navaid. The Automatic Station ID feature will automatically decode a station's Morse code and provide a positive visual identification. The GNC 215 can monitor standby VOR frequency while displaying received radial and featuring a supplemental CDI display for a VOR or localizer. The NAV/COMM products interface with most CDI, HIS and autopilot systems and with most Garmin flight displays to show the Nav indicators in the primary field of view. Both the GTR 205 and GNC 215 have received the FAA's Technical Standard Order authorization and will be available in March through the Garmin Authorized Dealer network. The GTR 295 COMM radio has a suggested retail price starting at $2,695 and the GNC 215 NAV/COMM radio is available starting at $5,295.
