Aviation Museum of Kentucky to host career prep curriculum launch event

The Aviation Museum of Kentucky is hosting a special event on Feb. 20 to unveil a new high school and youth workforce development aviation career preparation curriculum. The event is hosted by the Kentucky Department of Education, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Aviation and The AOPA Foundation. The event is aimed at educators, administrators, counselors, workforce development service providers and community stakeholders. There will also be teacher and trainer professional development opportunities showcased. The Aviation Job Experience and CPC is a comprehensive one-semester program aimed to equip the youth of Kentucky for careers in aviation, including airline pilots, commercial drone operators, aerospace engineers and other aerospace STEM professions.RSVP FOR THE SPECIAL LAUNCH EVENT HERE Attendees will learn about planning, implementation and evaluation resources within the CPS. This is designed to prepare students for the workforce experience, documented through apprenticeships, internships and work-based learning. The CPC is free for business, workforce development and public and private schools and will be available for implementation in the 2024-25 school year. As part of this initiative, The AOPA Foundation will provide free professional development opportunities in the spring of 2024 to support classroom instruction, facilitate school-business collaboration and train aviation business owners. The educational initiative is thanks to a $500,000 FAA Aircraft Pilot Workforce Development Grant in March 2023, called the KY Aviation Experience Requires Opportunity grant. The special launch event is being held at the Aviation Museum Kentucky in Lexington from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 20.
