Nel Stubbs, an expert in aviation tax planning and compliance, is launching a new consulting and advisory business to help aircraft owners and flight departments. Stubbs Aviation Advisors is part of the George J. Priester Aviation family of companies, supported by her four decades of experience. The joint venture will serve aircraft owners and operators in the U.S. and act independently from sister companies Priester Aviation, Mayo Aviation and Hill Private Aviation.
"Aircraft owners and operators have to navigate a maze of federal, state and local tax regulations, with states changing their laws now more than ever," Stubbs said. "We are continuing to serve this crucial need within the industry so that owners or prospective owners have someone in their corner to help execute effective and compliant tax plans."
Stubbs has decades of experience in the industry, previously serving as VP of Conklin andamp; de Decker, a JSSI company. She has become one of the most recognized experts in aviation tax planning and audits, cost and financial analysis, budgeting and aircraft ownership and operating structures. Stubbs was awarded the John P. "Jack" Doswell Award from the NBAA at the 2023 Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada in recognition of her lifelong achievement in her field.
She has worked with the NBAA since 1987 before making the move to aviation research and consulting firm Conklin andamp; de Decker in 1999. Within one year, Stubbs became an owner and stayed on with the company until it was acquired by JSSI in 2018. Stubbs has been active throughout the industry, currently serving a role on the NBAA's Tax Committee, NATA's Air Charter Committee, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University College of Business, Intelligence andamp; Security Advisory Board. In the past, Stubbs has served on other committees and boards like the NBAA Advisory Board, the National Aircraft Finance Association Board, and the Helicopter Association International's Finance and Leasing Committee.
Stubbs played a vital role in developing the NBAA's tax program and State Tax Report, helping to form the NBAA Tax Committee. She is a frequent speaker and advisor at industry seminars and forums. George J. Priester Aviation, led by Chairman and CEO Andy Priester, saw the need to lend support to the private aviation industry and aircraft owners, allowing many to benefit from Stubbs' skillset and extensive experience.
Stubbs Aviation Advisors acts as a fully independent company, planning to expand its expertise by leading and mentoring a new generation of advisors. As well as offering federal, state and local tax advice, Stubbs Aviation Advisors will offer aviation operating structure advice to satisfy the FAA, DOT and IRS regulatory obligations. The company will consult on both short- and long-term aircraft and flight department operating costs, as well as provide aircraft appraisals.
