FAA Completes Rule Establishing Pilot Records Database to Increase Safety

WASHINGTON – A new rule from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will enable the sharing of pilot records among employers in an electronic database maintained by the agency. The final rule (PDF) for the Pilot Records Database requires air carriers and certain other operators to report pilots’ employment history, training, and qualifications to the database. The rule also requires air carriers and certain operators to review records contained in the database when considering pilots for employment.

Recurrent Training Courses for Drone Pilots Available Online

Required recurrent online training for remote pilots who hold a current Part 107 certificate is now available on the FAA website. Remote pilots may take the training now in preparation for when the agency implements the Operations Over People rule. The training ensures Part 107 certificated remote pilots have the knowledge necessary to operate in accordance with the final rule when it becomes effective on April 21, 2021.

FAA Task Force Focuses on Youth Access to Jobs

The Youth Access to American Jobs in Aviation Task Force held its second public meeting on March 31, 2021, hearing from guest speakers from Black Girls Who Drone and the Civil Air Patrol. Ernanda White, founder of Black Girls Who Drone spoke on exploring other entry points to engage underrepresented women and girls in aviation, while Dr. Jeffrey Montgomery with the Civil Air Patrol addressed additional areas of aviation education and outreach.

Aviation Specialties Unlimited Announces NVIS FAA STC for UH-60

(BOISE, IDAHO – Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU) in Boise, Idaho, announced today the company obtained a supplemental type certificate (STC) from the FAA for NVIS (Night Vision Imaging System) use on the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter.
