Alexandria, Va. (May 11, 2022) – Helicopter Association International (HAI) appreciates and supports the work of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for its May 10 hearing to announce the probable cause and draft findings and recommendations related to a fatal air-tour helicopter accident that occurred on Dec. 26, 2019, near Kekaha, Hawaii, on the island of Kauai. HAI extends its deepest condolences to the families and coworkers of those who died in the accident.

Alexandria, Virginia,– Helicopter Association International (HAI) today reaffirmed its opposition to the recommendations contained in the FAA BVLOS ARC Final Report. The report, submitted to the FAA on March 10 and now posted on the FAA website, proposes several recommendations to the agency that, if implemented, will compromise flight safety for low-altitude National Airspace System (NAS) operators.

The National Park Service (NPS) and the FAA are rewriting the rules and regulations for air tours over national parks. It is clear from the plans already introduced that the NPS aims to cut back flights to such a degree that it will no longer be economically feasible for air tour companies to stay in business.
