Rome, 22 July 2024 – Leading helicopter service provider Falcon Aviation announced today a further reinforcement of its long-term partnership with Leonardo through the introduction of the AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopter into its fleet supporting the Energy industry. Falcon Aviation has signed a contract during an official ceremony at the Farnborough International Airshow for one aircraft plus one option.

On the occasion of the first AW09 Sales Network event dedicated to distributors and partners recently held at Kopter’s facility in Mollis, Switzerland, Leonardo announced the appointment of Aero Facility as an official distributor for the next generation single engine type in Japan. Aero Facility signed Preliminary Sales Contracts for six units in March 2023 and this latest move will extend Leonardo’s distributorship strategy to Japan to address all commercial applications’ requirements in the country. The announcement follows the recent appointments of distributors in Europe and reinforces the position of the AW09 in Asia.

The AW609 tiltrotor programme set another major industry capability milestone after its first successful ship trial, which was recently conducted with the support of the Italian Navy. From 3-12 April, the AW609 AC4 aircraft, fully representative of the final production configuration, performed demonstration trials relocating from Leonardo’s facility based in Cascina Costa (Samarate) to Maristaer Grottaglie Naval Base. The tiltrotor, with test pilots and flight test engineers from Leonardo (supported by Italian Navy personnel for the embarked operations), took off from the base inbound from the Italian aircraft carrier (ITS CAVOUR - Navy Fleet Flagship), 20 nm offshore, showing its effective approach, stable deck landing, and touchdown capabilities.

Leonardo continues to expand the level of service proximity and capabilities in the helicopter market by launching new projects in the UK through a long-term partnership with Aldenham Aviation Ltd. Starting with an existing building and infrastructure at London Elstree Aerodrome, operations target Part 145 maintenance capabilities to be in place within autumn this year. Further projects planned with Aldenham Aviation Ltd. will increase this capability, all of which complement the existing service network and increase efficiency alongside our regional partners. The new capability will act in strict coordination with Leonardo Belgium S.A. Logistics Centre, supporting the growing demand for Leonardo commercial helicopters in the UK and Ireland, particularly in the VIP-Corporate market where Leonardo is the leading OEM. The facility will deliver OEM-quality support services, including the latest addition technology developments following the introduction of the Agusta brand based on exclusive and tailored customer solutions specifically designed around passenger transport operators’ needs.
