Supervises and operates District owned aircraft to safely and successfully complete various operational and training missions.  Plans, directs, coordinates, and performs the training and testing of pilots employed by the District.  Implements the District’s policies and procedures on a daily basis to ensure that all pilots assigned to flight duties are properly trained, qualified, and approved for the operational tasks assigned.  Assists District staff, Air Operations Division Manager, Special Operations Battalion Chief, Operations Assistant Chief, and Operations Deputy Chief in the evaluation of pilot qualifications and performance of required crew duties. Possesses supervisory authority within the District for determining whether a crew member is qualified and/or proficient to perform required crew duties.


As necessary, exercises Pilot-in-Command (PIC), Instructor Pilot, and Evaluator Pilot duties during flight and ground operations involving the District’s helicopter to include pre-flight, flight, and post-flight activities.   Assists District staff with administrative, training, and testing tasks associated with the District’s Air Operations Division and completes related reports and/or assignments as requested by superiors.
