German Navy NH90 Sea Tiger performs maiden flight

Donauwörth, 30 November 2023 – The first NH90 Sea Tiger took off on-schedule for its maiden flight, at Airbus Helicopters' site in Donauwörth, Germany. The German Bundeswehr ordered 31 NH90 Sea Tiger multi role frigate helicopters for the German Navy’s shipborne operations in 2020.

First SAF-powered rotorcraft flight in UAE and Middle East set by Abu Dhabi Aviation’s AW139 commercial helicopter

Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA) and Leonardo are pleased to announce today that ADA’s AW139 intermediate twin-engine helicopter accomplished two flights powered by aviation fuel blended with SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) in Abu Dhabi on 28 and 30 November (the latter carrying on board UAE dignitaries and industry representatives).

Sikorsky Delivers First S-70 Black Hawk Helicopters To Romania

MIELEC, Poland Nov. 24, 2023 -- PZL Mielec, a Lockheed Martin company, delivered the first four new-generation, European manufactured S-70M Black Hawk utility helicopters to Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, with two more aircraft on schedule to arrive by the end of 2023. Purchased as part of the European Union’s VISION 2020 project, the intended missions for Romania’s new Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopters include maritime and land search and rescue, firefighting, transport and medical emergency support.

Rotor Unveils R550X Uncrewed Helicopter and Begins Production

The R550X is an uncrewed helicopter based on the Robinson R44 Raven II. It is designed to lift heavy loads up to 1,200 pounds, or 550 kilograms, with no pilot onboard. With a flight time of over three (3) hours and a top speed of 150 miles per hour, the R550X offers long-range VTOL capabilities beyond the reach of drones and eVTOLs, making it suitable for demanding cargo, utility, and maritime operations.

Universal Avionics completes first test flight of interactive Flight Management System

Tucson, Arizona – December 5, 2023 – Universal Avionics (UA), an Elbit Systems company, has successfully completed initial flight tests of its NexGen, software-based interactive Flight Management System (i-FMS). The flight tests were conducted in Austria on a government-owned Bell 212 helicopter as part of a joint effort with Elbit to improve flight management and navigation capabilities for the customer. The i-FMS adds onto mission computers delivered by Elbit and is controlled using the existing Human Machine Interface operated by the customer.

NTSB Preliminary Report: Rowlett, TX

On October 26, 2023, about 1650 central daylight time, a Robinson Helicopter R44, N141CD, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Rowlett, Texas. The flight instructor and pilot receiving instruction incurred minor injuries. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight.

Leonardo and Pratt & Whitney canada achieve first 100% SAF flight with PT6C-67C-POWERED AW139 helicopter

Leonardo and Pratt & Whitney Canada today announced the successful completion of the first flight for a AW139 intermediate twin helicopter, powered by PT6C-67C engines, using 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Accomplished at Leonardo’s facility in Cascina Costa di Samarate (Italy) on 21 November, the 75-minute flight and ground tests evaluated engine performance with multiple power variation and other systems. The test showed an outstanding response to the new fuel with no significant differences compared to the use of Jet A1 fuel.
