Boeing Delivers First MH-139A Production Aircraft to U.S. Air Force

MD HELICOPTERS SIGNS CONTRACT TO PROVIDE SAUDI ARMY NATIONAL GUARD WITH MD530F TECHNICAL AND LOGISTICAL SUPPORT

Mesa, Arizona: August 07, 2024 – MD Helicopters LLC (MDH) signed a 5-year, $19M support contract with the Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG) to provide spare parts, repair & overhaul, and in-country technical and logistical support for SANG’s 12 x MD530F helicopter flight training fleet. The contract is for a base year plus four additional option years. Under the $19 million contract, MDH will supply a field service representative and logistics technician in Saudi Arabia to support fleet maintenance and parts management. Additionally, the contract provides aircraft materials to maintain the current fleet.

NTSB Final Report: King Salmon, AK

On September 4, 2023, about 1610 Alaska daylight time, a DeHavilland DHC-2 float equipped-airplane, N97EL, and a Bell 206L-4 helicopter, N193AL, were involved in a midair collision near King Salmon, Alaska. The airplane sustained minor damage; the pilot and six passengers were not injured. The helicopter was substantially damaged; the pilot received minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 business flight. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135 on-demand charter flight.

NTSB Final Report: Sanford, FL

As part of a law enforcement simulation exercise, the helicopter pilot was orbiting near the departure airport between 200 to 300 ft above ground level, at 20 to 40 knots indicated airspeed. The pilot described that while the helicopter was in a left orbit the airspeed decreased to near 0. At that time, the helicopter began to descend in a vortex ring state (VRS). Due to the low altitude, the pilot was not able to recover from VRS and entered an autorotation to a grass area on the airport. The helicopter subsequently landed hard and came to rest upright in the grass area resulting in substantial damage to the helicopter’s tail boom. The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures of the helicopter.
