FAAST Blast — Watch FAA’s Spring Surface Safety Workshop, Flying Proficiency, Search & Rescue in the 21st Century

FAAST Blast — Week of Mar 20 – Mar 26, 2023
Biweekly FAA Safety Briefing News Update

From the Flight Deck Live – A GA Pilot Workshop

Did you miss the FAA’s spring surface safety workshop this week? No worries, it’s available on the FAA’s YouTube channel here youtube.com/watch?v=tX1LJhLHFas. The event gathered several FAA employees, GA industry reps, pilots, air traffic controllers, meteorologists, and others to discuss several different GA-related safety and operational concerns. The workshop panels provided key information about runway procedures, preventing airfield errors, and lowering the potential for accidents.

Flying Proficiency for GA Pilots

Pilots participating in regular proficiency training are much less likely to experience accidents. The FAA’s WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program combines continuing education through courses and seminars with periodic flight training with a flight instructor. Hold yourself to the same standards of proficiency that you expect of airline pilots who fly your family, and learn about WINGS for general aviation in our latest Fly Safe post here: medium.com/faa/wings-pilot-proficiency-program-11618458ed02. We also have a new 57 Seconds to Safer Flying video on WINGS here: youtube.com/watch?v=3o8_f57828U&list=PL5vHkqHi51DQdF_PXKQT7uJUPd4UzlxNS .

Can You Survive An Accident?

Though the GA accident rate continues to decline, search and rescue services remain a vital service. Many crashes are survivable if rescuers can get to you in time; however, the speed of them finding you depends on how much data is available for the search. Using technology and tools such as ADS-B and emergency locator transmitters are just some of the ways you can make it easier for searchers to find you. Discover tips and tricks to increase your chances of a successful rescue in the article “When Pan-Pan Becomes Mayday — Search and Rescue in the 21st Century” at http://bit.ly/3Jwv9a6.
