Commercial, charter returns to Cuba as flight restrictions lifted

Earlier this week, the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) lifted civil aviation restrictions on commercial and charter flights between the United States and Cuba, which were imposed by President Donal Trump. The lifted restrictions barred aircraft from flying to Cuban cities other than Havana. The USDOT lifted the restrictions in response to a letter sent by Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, who said the action was "in support of the Cuban people, and in the foreign policy interests of the United States," reported CNN.With flight restrictions lifted effective immediately, U.S. carrier and charter aircraft can now fly to eight international airports in Cuba outside of Havana, including those in Camaguey, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo. Cienfuegos, Manzanillo, Matanzas, and Santiago de Cuba. The Biden administration announced plans last month to expand authorized travel between Cuba and the United States, as well as take further steps to loosen restrictions on travelers to the country.
