New U.S. Customs building opens at Addison Airport

Addison Airport (ADS), a public-use airport just 9 miles north of downtown Dallas, Texas, has opened a new U.S. Customs and airport administration building.Originally the U.S. Customs offices for the airport had been located in an on-field hangar, but the U.S. Customs and Border Protection told the town in the spring of 2015 that it did not meet the agency's standards for space, ramp access, or security. The cost of construction was funded through airport operating revenues. An official groundbreaking ceremony was held for the $8.9 million, 10,200 square-foot two-story building. While scheduled to open in early 2021, COVID-19 related setbacks pushed the opening date. The first floor of the building will house the U.S. Customs office while the second floor will hold the Addison Airport administration offices. The new dual-use building will give the airport an opportunity to have a structure with a signature look that will help boost recognition of the airport brand, Joel Jenkinson, airport director of Addison Airport since 2008, told the Dallas Business Journal.Watch a time-lapse of the Addison Airport U.S. Customs and Airport Offices building construction.
