West Star Aviation, the largest private employer in Mesa County, Colorado, will receive $1.7 million from the Colorado Economic Development Commission to bring new jobs to its facility in Grand Junction, reports the Denver Post.The West Star facility in Grand Junction (GJT), which offers aircraft maintenance and avionics services, employs 531 people. The facility includes a 281,824 square foot hangar, shop and office space on 32 acres.The incentive from the Commission will allow West Star to expand its services, which could create around 110 new jobs in either Grand Junction or at its East Alton, Illinois facility, which is currently under consideration.A majority of the new jobs will be in aircraft maintenance, with an average annual pay of $51,318. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average salary in Grand Junction in 2020 was only $49,108.80."West Star is the largest non-government employer in Mesa County. It is a community darling. It is involved in almost everything in the community," said Jay Seaton, a member of the Economic Development Commission, notes the Denver Post.
