The FAA recently published personnel licensing statistics for 2020, showing there were 26,854 fully licensed American female pilots among 469,062 FAA licensed pilots. Female pilots now represent 5.7% of the American pilot population -- the highest percentage since 1960!The numbers show that 637 became non-commercial pilots, 692 became commercial pilots, and 46 became airline transport pilots in 2020. This represents a positive trend. The number of American female pilots had decreased from a 2009 all-time high of 28,358 to 23,216 in 2016 -- the lowest number since the 1970s.While the COVID-19 pandemic deeply affected the active pilot population in Canada, it did not in the United States. In fact, the United States grew its pilot population by 2,162 in 2020.
