Redbird Unveils Training App at AirVenture

At AirVenture this week, Redbird Flight Simulations will introduce Redbird Pro, a new app designed to personalize the proficiency training of pilots, making the daily improvement of their knowledge and skills more achievable, enjoyable, and effective. The app, which Redbird has been developing since 2019, uses machine learning to measure pilots' proficiency and create and adjust a custom proficiency plan to support their progress."General aviation pilots understand the need for proficiency, but many lack the time, money, and motivation to tailor a training plan to their needs and incorporate it into their daily schedule," said Josh Harnagel, VP of Marketing at Redbird. "Redbird Pro aims to solve these problems by personalizing and gamifying proficiency training and delivering it in a mobile application that pilots can access anywhere."When pilots first download Redbird Pro, which they can soon do in the App Store or Google Play, the app prompts them to complete a self-assessment and, if able, a baseline flight using a Redbird flight simulator. Redbird Pro uses this data to generate a Pro Score, which is at the core of a pilot's personalized training plan.As pilots train with Redbird Pro, their Pro Score gives them an objective measurement of their progress and identifies where and how they can improve their proficiency. It includes a broad overview of their training activity and allows them to drill into specific skills and tasks, how much training time they should allot to them, and how they score for them relative to their baseline proficiency and objective. The app automatically incorporates pilots' training data and knowledge decay into their Pro Score, giving them a realistic and evolving view of their proficiency level.Based on a pilot's Pro Score, Redbird Pro recommends the training that will have the greatest impact. The app includes an extensive catalog of training collections, each one developed to help the pilot improve knowledge and skills in specific areas through articles, quizzes, skill refreshers, and flight simulator scenarios created and curated by expert flight instructors. In addition to original content, Redbird Pro incorporates content from leaders in the aviation industry such as the AOPA Air Safety Institute, Flying Magazine, Plane and Pilot, and more into the pilot's training plan. Redbird is also working with these content partners to create training scenarios that pilots will be able to fly on a Redbird flight simulator.Pilots do not need access to a Redbird flight simulator to use Redbird Pro; they can read articles, watch videos, take quizzes, and brief, chair fly, and debrief scenarios with nothing more than a mobile device, tablet, or computer. However, flying scenarios with a Redbird simulator enables Redbird Pro to incorporate additional data into the Pro Score, which enhances pilots' personal training plans and allows them to drill even further into the minute details of their flying. Pilots will soon be able to connect their ForeFlight, CloudAhoy, and Pilot Partner accounts to Redbird Pro as well, allowing them to sync data from their logbook and debrief it in the app.
