California Aeronautical University held a graduation ceremony to honor its graduating class on Saturday, Sept. 18. The commencement ceremony took place at the university, located on Meadows Field International Airport.
The Class of 2021 received their diplomas in the university's aviation degree programs, including Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics, Associate of Science in Aviation Studies, Bachelor of Science in Aviation Business Administration, and Master of Aviation Science.
Swayne Martin, First Officer for regional airline Envoy Air and renowned aviation influencer, addressed the graduating class as the guest speaker.
With the looming pilot shortage that has been exacerbated by the global pandemic, CAU is working to prepare the next generation of aviation professionals.
Graduates of the university have already experienced successful ventures into the aviation industry through CAU's relationships with industry-leading organizations and partnerships with several airlines. The University's partnerships with airlines provide students with a direct pathway to a prestigious career track in commercial aviation and are critical to the success of graduates entering the field.
Prominent employers who have hired CAU graduates include SkyWest Airlines, Piedmont Airlines, Envoy Air, Mesa Airlines, Air Wisconsin Airlines, Kalitta Air, Air Transport International, Republic Airways, and Amazon.
"California Aeronautical University sets their graduates up for success, and several of the graduates have gone on to Piedmont Airlines as cadets and first officers. Our flight team is always impressed with their expertise in the flight deck and beyond," said Dr. Lynette Darnell, Senior Manager of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Development of Piedmont Airlines. "Congratulations to this class of distinguished graduates on all of your hard work."
"We've been honored to guide these accomplished students along their journey towards an aviation career," said Matthew Johnston, President of California Aeronautical University, "and wish each of our graduates much success and safe operations in the years to come."
