MCKINNEY, TexasJuly 20, 2026—Adventure Pilot, LLC, in partnership with MyFirePlane, today announced Smart Gear Alerts, a new iFly EFB safety system designed to prevent landing gear configuration accidents, protect pilots and passengers, and reduce costly aircraft damage.

Smart Gear Alerts determines whether an aircraft is approaching a runway or water landing, compares that environment with the aircraft’s actual landing gear position, and immediately provides visual and audible warnings when the configuration is incorrect. In a clear voice, the system announces the specific hazard and required action, such as “Water Landing Detected” or“GoAround! Check Gear!”

“Approach and landing are high-workload phases of flight, and even experienced pilots can miss a critical checklist item,” said Juanita Boyd, Vice President of Business Development at Adventure Pilot. “Smart Gear Alerts provides a final, intelligent safeguard by telling pilots exactly what is wrong and what action they need to take.”

By combining aircraft position, airport, terrain, and waterway data with a direct indication of physical gear position, Smart Gear Alerts warns only when the aircraft’s configuration does not match the intended landing surface. This reduces nuisance alerts while providing fleet operators with another layer of protection for their pilots, passengers, and aircraft.

Smart Gear Alerts is initially available to select iFly EFB fleet customers, with installations expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.The system requires supplemental hardware that detects the aircraft’s physical gear position and communicates it to iFly EFB. Smart Gear Alerts is supported on Android, iOS, and Windows devices.

A live demonstration will be available during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh at the iFly EFB booth in Hangar C, Booth 3052.

Fleet operators interested in Smart Gear Alerts may contact Mike Rhodes of MyFirePlane at [email protected].
