Gulfstream's G280 supply narrows as the G300 waits on certification
Gulfstream delivered 40 aircraft in the third quarter, 35 of them large-cabin and five mid-cabin, General Dynamics reported. President Danny Deep said the company intends to deliver 200 aircraft in 2030, implying production above 200 aircraft in 2029 as output continues to climb. At the same time, Gulfstream's super-midsize product line is in transition. The G280 is approaching its final deliveries, while the G300 remains in certification testing. Final G280 deliveries are expected around mid-2027, and G300 certification is targeted toward late 2027, Gulfstream said on its third-quarter call. "As the 280 phases out … there'll be a gap between that and the 300," said Deep. "We prefer if we didn't have it, but we have it. That said, we will more than offset the reduction in the 280 volume with additional large cabin aircraft, and as a result, you'll have a more favorable mix, and that'll obviously have a positive impact on margins." Large-cabin aircraft are expected to carry more of the delivery load as the G280 winds down and the G300 works through certification. That temporary gap in the company's super-midsize lineup will matter most to super-midsize buyers, even if it has no effect (or even a positive effect) on Gulfstream's bottom line. The G300 was unveiled in September 2025 and first flew in December 2025. It is a super-midsize aircraft with seating for up to 10 passengers and a range of 3,600 nautical miles at Mach 0.80. With certification roughly a year away, buyers looking for a factory-new Gulfstream super-midsize aircraft will face a narrowing window for G280 availability before the G300 enters the market. Why it matters For G280 buyers, the transition provides useful supply context. The G280 remains available today, with a healthy supply on the used market. There are nine Gulfstream G280s currently listed on the GlobalAir.com marketplace. For large-cabin buyers, Gulfstream is signaling that production growth over the next several years will continue to be driven heavily by the company's larger aircraft. What's not clear is whether all remaining G280s in the production queue are spoken for. With new G280 supply narrowing through mid-2027, buyers committed to the Gulfstream brand who fall into that gap still have the used market to lean on.
