Rise Aviation is adding 160-foot hangar doors for large aircraft at GYI
The popularity of ultra-long-range, large cabin aircraft has created a conundrum — they don't fit into many legacy hangar spaces, especially at non-primary airports. Rise Aviation is the latest move by an FBO to answer the shortfall by putting up a new hangar at North Texas Regional Airport (GYI).The company's expanded presence will include a new 63,100-square-foot hangar facility with two bays, each covering 28,800 square feet of floor space. The two bays will have doors 160 feet wide and 30 feet tall that the company says can accommodate a broad range of business aircraft, including ultra-long-range jets. The project also adds 5,500 square feet of dedicated office space for flight department operations. Construction is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2027 with pre-leasing available now. Rise is targeting operators that need administrative and operational support functions alongside aircraft storage."This new expansion represents a significant investment in the future of business aviation at North Texas Regional Airport," said Mike Livezey, vice president and general manager of Rise Aviation. "By adding a large, modern, purpose-built hangar facility with dedicated offices, we are creating the capacity and infrastructure flight departments need to operate efficiently and grow in North Texas."Why it mattersCongestion at primary airports across the nation has resulted in secondary airports becoming attractive home base options due to available capacity, easier access and operational flexibility. What many secondary airports lack, however, is infrastructure designed specifically for large-cabin and ultra-long-range aircraft. Rise Aviation's expansion is another example of airports and service providers responding to that pressure as airports such as North Texas Regional attempt to make themselves more of a bizjet household name. How quickly flight departments sign on before the bays open in the first quarter of 2027 is the signal to watch.
