Pratt and Whitney Canada names Mint Turbines a PT6 overhaul facility

Pratt and Whitney Canada has named Mint Turbines of Stroud, Oklahoma, a Designated Overhaul Facility for the PT6A and PT6T engine families. That single line covers a lot of ground. The PT6A and PT6T power the King Air line, the Daher TBM, the Pilatus PC-12, the Cessna Caravan, and a wide range of utility helicopters and air ambulances. Owners of the majority of single- and twin-turboprops on the market today now have one more OEM-approved shop to call.A Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF) isn't a marketing label. Pratt and Whitney Canada selects DOFs based on demonstrated quality systems, technical capability, and regulatory compliance, and the designation lets Mint perform manufacturer-approved overhaul work rather than field maintenance alone. Rob Ruck, president and chief operating officer of parent company M International, called it recognition of "years of investment in our people, our systems and our unwavering commitment to doing things the right way."Mint isn't a newcomer to turbine work. Founded in 1981, the company has overhauled engines for customers in more than 40 countries and already holds authorizations from General Electric and Ozark Aeroworks, plus Rolls-Royce through sister company Airborne Engines.For years, PT6 overhaul work outside the manufacturer's own facilities has run through a familiar short list: StandardAero, Duncan Aviation, and West Star Aviation. Every name added to that list is a name owners can call for a competing quote, and competing quotes are exactly what move overhaul cost and turnaround time, the two variables that show up in every ownership conversation about a turboprop.Why it mattersOne new authorized shop doesn't rewrite PT6 overhaul economics overnight. Mint still has to build a track record and a queue like any DOF, and an owner shouldn't expect an immediate price drop just because a fourth name joined the list. What did change is real leverage. Owners and operators now have another manufacturer-backed quote to compare next to the incumbents.
