Piper PA-46 O2 Generator Protective Cap and Tube Removal

On November 7, 2025, Piper provided information on possible installation of oxygen generators with protective covers installed (reference Piper Aircraft SB 1140).  The purpose of these protective shipping covers is to prevent accidental activation of oxygen generators during transportation or maintenance activities by covering the percussion cap of the oxygen generator. 

Although the PA-46 does have a separate oxygen supplement system for the pilot, the passengers could be exposed to hypoxia in the event of a cabin depressurization event due to oxygen generators not being activated.

This notice is to encourage owners, operators and/or maintainers of aircraft with oxygen generators to perform the visual inspect per Piper Aircraft SB 1140 and continue inspections anytime the aircraft returns from maintenance.
