Duncan Aviation expands PW300 and PW500 engine overhaul capacity in Lincoln

Duncan Aviation has completed its expansion at its turbine engine overhaul shop in Lincoln, Nebraska, adding 36,000 sq. ft. of Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF) capacity for the Pratt andamp; Whitney PW300 and PW500 turbofan engine series. With engine MRO backlogs growing across the industry, adding more capacity to one of the most-used MROs provides needed relief. DOF capacity is authorization from Pratt andamp; Whitney Canada for a third party to perform engine overhauls to the manufacturer's standards using approved tooling and procedures. Engines that receive a DOF overhaul also receive full manufacturer-backed documentation and a logbook entry. The PW500 engine series is used in the Citation XLS+ and the Phenom 300/300E, while the PW300 series powers the Falcon 2000LX and the Gulfstream G100. Bain andamp; Company reported that aircraft engine MRO has become a choke point for aviation, with a growing number of airlines and holding companies updating their aging narrowbody engines to extend their lives. Additionally, newer engines are coming in for their first scheduled, or even premature, shop visits, as durability challenges with some of these engines add to the delays. With MRO demand increasing, that same capacity squeeze is working its way down the ladder to business aviation. Bain claims that engine MRO demand is likely to experience a near-term peak in 2026 and remain constrained through the end of the decade. That picture is drawn from commercial aviation, but the same capacity squeeze frames the backdrop for any owner pricing an engine event today. With more DOF capacity, waitlists at other locations will shorten as owners move to schedule maintenance at the Lincoln facility, and more are able to receive service. Enrollment in Pratt andamp; Whitney Canada's Engine Support Plan or a third-party program like JSSI (Jet Support Services Inc.) will not give priority scheduling, but it will compound with the benefits of an overhaul. A jet actively enrolled in an engine program with recent DOF overhaul documentation has stronger potential on the used market. While MRO backlog is not solved with a single expansion, it does signal that companies are investing in that demand and increasing their capacity. More expansions and new MRO facilities are expected in the future to provide the necessary relief to an industry bottleneck that remains under real pressure.
