EAA has announced that the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Doc will be returning to AirVenture 2026. The association states the aircraft's presence is part of its America 250 theme and celebrates American aviation innovation. Doc was built in 1955 and served at the Griffiss Air Force Base as part of a squadron known as the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was retired in 1956 and used as a target for Navy training missions in California until 1998. A restoration group later took possession of the aircraft and brought it to Wichita, Kansas. The group spent over 450,000 volunteer hours restoring the large aircraft. Doc finally made its first flight after restoration in July 2016, 60 years after its initial retirement. It is currently owned and operated by Doc's Friends, Inc., a non-profit based in Wichita. The aircraft is planned to be on display at Boeing Plaza on July 24 through 26 as the center aircraft. Before that, flight experiences on Doc will also be available at the Appleton International Airport (ATW) from July 20 to 23. AirVenture guests who would like to book a ride on Doc should visit its website here.
