Colorado airport to close for a month for runway pavement maintenance
The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport (ASE) will be closed for a month to complete its required airfield pavement maintenance.
The airport will be closed from April 23 at 9 a.m. to May 21 at 7 p.m. The airport stated that the annual work on the aging pavement of the runway and taxiway is required to ensure it remains safe and reliable for both commercial and general aviation users. The schedule was chosen in collaboration with aviation partners and the community schedule to minimize disruptions.
"This closure approach has been well-received in recent years, and we are continuing the practice in 2026," said airport director Diane Jackson. "We're also pleased to complete the work ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, with a second phase of improvements taking place overnight later in the season to avoid an additional runway closure."

In Nov. 2024, Pitkin County voters approved a measure to allow the county's airport authority to perform the layout plan to modernize and improve ASE. It claims the full upgrade is scheduled for completion in 2027. Once complete, the annual spring closures will no longer be required. Passengers are encouraged to contact airlines directly for travel arrangements, but general aviation inquiries should be sent to the airport's FBO, Atlantic Aviation.
