Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation on Monday that gave the State of Florida the authority to name major commercial service airports, including the Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). PBI is now planned to be renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport after receiving FAA and other required approval. Once approved, transition activities will occur in phases. A state appropriation to update signage, branding and public-facing materials may be provided, but that is still pending. The change would cost an estimated $5.5 million, according to WPTV News. PBI states that airport operations will continue without interruption. "We remain committed to offering a safe, efficient and welcoming experience for all travelers," said Palm Beach County Mayor Sara Baxter. "As the airport moves through this name change, it will continue to serve as the trusted gateway our community relies on." If approved by the FAA, the law will take effect on July 1, 2026. Operations, ownership and governance of PBI will not change. The airport's code has not been changed under the legislation, as a separate bill has been introduced to change it. Any change would follow the FAA's established review process.
